Extended Casimir Approach to Controlled Hamiltonian Systems

In this paper, we first propose an extended Casimir method for energy-shaping. Then it is used to solve some control problems of Hamiltonian systems. To solve the H∞ control problem, the energy function of a Hamiltonian system is shaped to such a form that could be a candidate solution of HJI inequality. Next, the energy function is shaped as a candidate of control ISS-Lyapunov function, and th...

Extremal k-edge-hamiltonian hypergraphs

An r-uniform hypergraph is k-edge-hamiltonian iff it still contains a hamiltonian-chain after deleting any k edges of the hypergraph. What is the minimum number of edges in such a hypergraph? We give lower and upper bounds for this question for several values of r and k. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Hamiltonian Cycles Avoiding Prescribed Arcs in Tournaments

In [6], Thomassen conjectured that if I is a set of k − 1 arcs in a k-strong tournament T , then T − I has a Hamiltonian cycle. This conjecture was proved by Fraisse and Thomassen [3]. We prove the following stronger result. Let T = (V, A) be a k-strong tournament on n vertices and let X1, X2, . . . , Xl be a partition of the vertex set V of T such that |X1| ≤ |X2| ≤ . . . ≤ |Xl|. If k ≥ ∑l−1 i...

On Extremal Hypergraphs for Hamiltonian Cycles

We study su cient conditions for Hamiltonian cycles in hypergraphs, and obtain both Turánand Dirac-type results. While the Turán-type result gives an exact threshold for the appearance of a Hamiltonian cycle in a hypergraph depending only on the extremal number of a certain path, the Dirac-type result yields a su cient condition relying solely on the minimum vertex degree.

Extended Abstract: Bifurcations in Hamiltonian Systems with Symmetry

This is an extended a.bstract for the lecture of J .E. Marsden to be presented at the ENOC-93 conference, Hamburg, August, 1993. The goal of the lecture is to outline some recent work of the lecturer, M. Golubitsky,1. Stewart, E. Knobloch, A. Mahalov and T. Ratiu on bifurcations in Hamiltonian systems with symmetry. We will survey some earlier work with D. Lewis, T. Ratiu and others to set the ...
